How to use self-acupressure for your own health
Acupressure is a method of self-care similar to acupuncture but without needles, and is the application of pressure to specific points on the body, often used to help relieve tension and pain.
Rubbing our temples during a headache or stressful moment is an example of how we naturally choose to place our hands-on specific areas of our body for relief.
Acupressure can be self-administered in many different situations, regardless of time and place, at no cost.
The Traditional Chinese Medicine has been using acupuncture for 3000 years.
There are over 350 acupuncture points located all over the body, which occur on meridian lines.
Chi energy (nourishing subtle energy) is absorbed from the environment into acupuncture energy points and through the meridian system which is divided into 12 principal meridians that deliver energy to the major organs of the body.
Studies have found strong correlations between meridians being out of balance electrically and the presence of underlying disease in associated organ systems.
Energy can be introduced into the meridian system to promote healing by stimulation of the acupuncture points by finger pressure.
One such point is Triple Warmer 10, also known as the ‘Celestial Well’, and is an easy point for you to use at home to support your health.
The reported benefits of using this point include:
moving phlegm
reduction of lymph swellings
thyroid disorders
elbow tendonitis
one-sided headaches, migraines
useful for depression and/or anxiety
epilepsy
general pain
neck and shoulder pain
On an emotional level, it promotes an awareness of positive actions for health lifestyle choices - bringing about the living of a more balanced life - with increased gratitude for daily tasks.
To find this acupressure point, bend your arm and touch the tip of your elbow, then move your fingers up your upper arm by one thumb width (see photo). Using two fingers, apply gentle pressure to these points. Hold the points from 2-20 mins. While holding these points you may even feel a pulsing sensation.
In a kinesiology session, I often use this point to assist your body in easing pain. Kinesiology provides a number of other methods to assist you in pain management, as well as many other methods to help your body heal itself.
